Why did I choose medicine?! |
|
The interview |
So, tell us a bit about yourself:
Err.. my name is Sasha, I like being called Sha because my college best friends gave me that name. I am currently a medical officer in a Malaysian government hospital. I'm half-Indian, half-Kelabit(google for yourself).. and I live my life as much as possible as a Christian. I love reading but can't stand studying. I like swimming, dancing, playing my flute, eating yummy food especially M&Ms and donuts, watching tons of movies, listening to music (especially rock!) and hanging out with my friends & family. I don't like it when my life feels like it's fake or a routine, and I don't like others telling what I can and cannot do. I don't like when things are unfair, impossible to get over and I can't stand being around people who says they want things to be different but refuse to do one thing to change anything.
Hmm.. anything surprising about yourself?
I hate vegetables. Blergh. But I eat because I should.
Why be a doctor? (Somehow they didn't ask me this in my real entrance interview)
I was tricked. Haha.. OK, I was kidding. I didn't really know then why I wanted to be a doctor. I just thought it was cool, since my dad was one. But then again, the one thing I've always wanted to do was teach. I have the greatest respect for people who are willing to share their knowledge and experience with others. Somehow the idea of teaching future doctors about medicine seemed like a good one. After 2 years of housemanship, I've enjoyed teaching patients, their family members, medical students and even junior housemen whenever possible. Thankfully, I have no regrets yet, and I still want to teach. The other thing that I like about being a doctor was that I would meet people from different social standings, unlike jobs where you only meet those in your own field. Meeting different individuals everyday gives me a better perspective on life.
Any dreams for the future?
Lets see.. own my first condo in KL by 30, buy my dream car by 35, specialise and buy a Tag Heuer watch as a reward, find a cause that I'd be passionate about, hopefully help women and children, work hard to make a difference in as many patients' lives as possible, help update my father's postgraduate notes, teach in a medical school or hospital, live my life with a purpose and achieve as much personal growth as possible.
Why blog?
I started blogging since my college days out of boredom. Then it was me blabbering about my day-in, day-out as a medical student. Now, I'm blogging as a doctor, in hope that even with a tiny audience, I can share what goes on in my life and everything I've learnt on this road we call Life. The good, the bad, the torture, the fun.. it's all here.
